Little is known about the Voronta Beast which is thought to inhabit Lake Voronta deep in Siberia, Russia. The first official reported encounter with this creature occurred in July of 1953 when renowned geologist, V.A. Tverdokhlebov, and his assistant, claimed that they witnessed the creature on a perfect, windless day. At first the two through the object in the lake was nothing more than a petrol drum floating roughly 300 feet from the shoreline. It wasn’t long before the two men realized that they were looking at something much more.

According to Tverdokhlebov’s retelling of the encounter the beast was dark grey in color, roughly 30 feet in length and about 6 feet wide. He also stated that the creature had a pair of strange, light colored markings on its head, as well as its dorsal fins, which appeared to be set backwards when compared to more traditional animals with dorsal fins, like dolphins and sharks. In this report Tverdokhlebov also included the observation that the Voronta Beast, as it would come to be called, appeared to swim with vertical porpoise like undulations.

This account by Tverdokhlebov had led some investigators to conclude that the animal in Lake Voronta may be a rare species of freshwater cetacean, a large sea mammal like whales, dolphins and porpoises. Over the last few years there have been a small number of unsuccessful Soviet sponsored expeditions sent to Lake Voronta to collect evidence of the creature. It was even rumored that Nikita Khrushchev, the leader of the Soviet Union after the death of Joseph Stalin, took special interest in the creature.

Sometime in the mid 20th century another geologist, who remains unnamed, reported witnessing the Voronta Beast, he described it as an oversized, glistening, tin barrel with a slanted horn rudder on its back.

The rarity of sightings and information on the Voronta Beast can be attributed to the limited access to the Lake Voronta area and the fact that the nearest settlement to the lake is over 100 miles away. Independent expeditions to the lake, though rare, have met with equal inconclusive results and to this day the identity of the Voronta Beast.

The Evidence
There is currently no physical evidence to suggest the existence of the Voronta Beast.
